Heart-Health Study for Trans* and Gender-Diverse Individuals
This Calgary-based study seeks to understand how gender-affirming hormone therapy effects heart health in transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals.
Transgender, non-binary, and gender diverse individuals face significant societal and healthcare-related challenges, including unclear heart health risks associated with gender-affirming hormone therapy use that are not well researched, discussed or understood by patients or providers. Therefore, the results of our study may be used to begin improving care provision in this high-risk population.
Volunteering participants will participate in 2 in-person research sessions at the Foothills Medical Centre. The first session will be a screening session followed by assessment of arterial health, and a second session measuring blood pressures over 4-hours. We are pleased to offer compensation for time and parking for those participants who participate. This study has been approved by the Conjoint Health Research Ethics Board at the University of Calgary.
